O’SHUCK’s is…”WARM”

O'Shuck's

O’Shuck’s is a Florida Style Seafood Restaurant & Grill located in Loganville, Georgia.  I’m not sure if Maxie Price still does that commercial with the tagline that always kept me guessing about “WHERE”S LOGANVILLE“??  For those of you who are still baffled, it’s located quite a few miles north of Stone Mountain, Georgia on Highway 78/Main Street on your way to Athens, Georgia where our good old “GEORGIA BULLDOGS” are!!

O’Shuck’s was founded in October 2011 by owners Steve Green and Jo Davis, who combined their years of experience in seafood and Florida Style cuisine to create a relaxed, family, friendly atmosphere for all.  I have to see that I was drawn to the authentic seafood decor and was immediately reminded of my trips to places like Charleston, SC and Florida, both known for their Seafood Fare.

The Tables were affixed to the wall with door hinges, which I found to be interesting and I have to say that I loved the little side bar located above the booths that held the condiments, which gave you more room at the table to enjoy your food.  The menu is a great combination of Florida Style Seafood & Grilled Entrees , Sandwiches, Appetizers, & Oysters served in varying ways!

As with the usual order of things, once seated the waitress came over and took drink orders…Having noticed what looked like a refreshing drink being enjoyed by a waiting patron, I opted for a “BLUE MOON“, served with a juicy slice of orange!

After that, It was time to get a little more serious, so it was on to the appetizer…

Upon quick glance of the menu the 1st thing that caught my eyes were the soups…There were three options available (1)Shrimp & Lobster Bisque, (2) SheCrab, & (3) Seafood Gumbo.  Although the name alone is enticing for me, it was actually the description that drew me to #2, the “SHECRAB“!  There were 2 portion sizes available, which I also liked, so I went for the smaller cup portion and awaited it’s arrival.  When it arrived, it looked just as I imagined.  I picked up my spoon and began to blow, assuming that like with most soups, it was going to be hot??

Well, it wasn’t 😦…which typically would have been a major problem for me, but the flavor made me immediately forget!  I’m telling you before you reach to add your extra S&P (salt&pepper), just stick your spoon (no need to blow…Smile!)…&…taste the “SHECRAB” heaven!  I’m not sure what crab they used or how much, but it was both “DELICIOUS” & “PLENTIFUL“…&…We’re not done yet…(Sorry forgot to take pic

Along with the soup, an order was placed for 1/2 dozen of “OYSTERS” on the half shell, which also came available in three options…(1) Steamed, (2) Fried, & (3) Baked w/ your choice of Jalapeno’s, Bacon, Parmesan Cheese, & Garlic!…Can you guess which door I chose this time…

Door #3 “THE BAKED’ OYSTERS ON A 1/2 SHELL“…Smile!…The waitress asked if I wanted them “ALL THE WAY“, topped with not one, but all of the toppings available…which was an “EXCELLENT” recommendation.  The “OYSTERS” by far was my favorite pick…

The entree choices were many, but I was able to narrow down my initial interest to two.  (1) The Broiled Seafood Platter, which I believe came with Grouper, Shrimp, & Scallops or (2) The Baked Stuffed Shrimp??  After being advised that the broiled was geared a little more  for people with a blander palette, & since I was already on a roll with richness, I opted for the “BAKED STUFFED SHRIMP“.

All entrees come with one side and considering I needed to lighten it up a bit, I went for the “HOUSE” salad, which wasn’t really much to chat about.  You get lots of Iceberg Lettuce, a couple of Tomatoes & Cucumbers topped with your choice of a Tomato Vinaigrette or your standard fare of choices.  Cheese is  available as an option, but not sure about croutons & other salad amenities??  The “BAKED STUFFED SHRIMP” arrived timely and split according to my request.  At first glance it looked “INTERESTING“!

Although I remembered the dish being described as served with a cream sauce, my initial thought was “Is that cheese“??  I dived in a little leery, concerned as to whether it like the soup mentioned earlier would be warm or hot??  I have to say that it was both…The crab cake and shrimp you could tell had been “Baked” as described, and just like with the soup, they definitely did not skimp on the flavor or the crab.  However, also like the soup the sauce was a little on the “WARM” side.  In my opinion as more a Food Connoisseur than a Professional Chef, I seemed to think that the sauce should have been either baked with the dish, kept at a better temperature for topping, or forgive me, “Nuked” a little more prior to applying.  The shrimp was firm, juicy, and flavorful and overall the dish was good!

By now, my belly was beginning to feel like it was not going to keep up with my eyes, but how can you resist that last course…They had me at “HOMEMADE“!

I’m beginning to think that someone really likes the number “3“, which is perfectly ok in my book!  I guess I don’t have to list them this time, as you can see the options for yourself in the photo above.  The waitresses favorite, which was not my prefered choice of the evening, was the “WARMChocolate Brownie topped with Vanilla IceCream, Whipped Topping, & a Cherry!!  I however, was in the mood to try something a little more unique…

"BANANA SPLIT CHEESECAKE"

"BANANA SPLIT CHEESECAKE"

The “BANANA SPLIT CHEESECAKE“!!…It was “MOUSSEY“- “CREAMYHeaven!…It actually comes with a layer of Banana and a layer of Chocolate Cheesecake, and then it’s topped with Whipped Topping, Caramel, Fudge, & Cherries.  The Bananas were a “Perfect” texture and it was really a nice finish to a tasty  meal.

Remember those “OYSTERS” that I spoke of earlier??…Well I’m not sure if they are included, but $0.65Oyster Wednesday” is one of “O’SHUCK’s” weekly specials as of December.
